Josie is never without a notepad and pen and wrote down her observations of life in Turkey and over time compiled the book but it wasn’t writing the book that was the challenge it was getting it published in the climate of recession. Finally, Miles Allen – an independent Kent publisher running RedBak publishers –realised its potential and the book launched on 21st November. Some of the proceeds will go towards the charity ‘Tomorrows People’ which helps long-term unemployed people back to work. They have already received the proceeds from five signed copies of the book and an auctioned limited edition set of the books illustrations by Tym Lawrence which raised over £400.
Josie feels she has come full circle “You have to do the journey to look back and appreciate it” she explains. The book is for all those people on the move – commuters who want some peace on their train journeys, travellers who have experienced the real turkey and anyone thinking of changing their lives.
“A book of short stories which provide a good, fun take on the culture of Turkey” is Josie Maguire’s take on her first book. I feel it’s more than that – by changing her life and looking at the situation from a writers perspective, Josie became a writer who is in touch with the words from her heart not just those inspiring words from her head. I am sure that is what makes these stories stand out as heart-warming.
