Even in these uncertain times , much of Mackinac ’ s visitor experience has remained the same thanks to the commitment of Mackinac Island Tourism members taking health and safety precautions very seriously . While several hundred thousand people visited Mackinac Island in 2020 , COVID-19 cases were relatively few and far between .
Even if the pandemic continues to pose a risk , you can rest assured that Mackinac Island is doing everything it can to create an environment that ’ s as safe as possible for your visit .
Your Travel Safety : The health and safety of our guests , seasonal staff and local population remains our highest priority . All Island businesses exhibit great effort in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene . Island municipalities have taken measures to make our cleaning and hygiene protocols extremely rigorous . We have increased antibacterial hand sanitizer stations throughout downtown and increased the frequency of cleaning public areas , including lobbies , door handles , public bathrooms , etc . using hospital grade disinfectanting standards .
Travel Flexibility : Mackinac Island Tourism is a member-driven collective of local business operators . The dates and hours of operation , capacity limits and reservation policies for Island businesses will remain fluid .
