The official start to summer may still be a few weeks away, and who knows what Mother Nature will throw at us between now and then. Either way, I am so excited for( mostly) warmer weather and the ability to be outside more than inside( most of the time).

This is the first year I remember having hail multiple times in one spring— or year for that matter. At home, we’ ve had hail at least three times, but thankfully very little damage.
I held out longer than I wanted to plant the garden and the field. Out of need for color in my yard for an event, I did manage to sneak a few flowers out of the greenhouse and have worked on a few pots that were not going out to customers. I’ m still getting my planting fix; just not for myself.
It’ s funny. I think our dogs, Alfie, Buster and Maggie, realize it’ s planting season. I’ m sure all three are impatiently waiting for watermelon
and cherry tomatoes. They eat tons of both throughout the summer, but I think I am going to have do something different with our cherry tomatoes since Alife likes to pick his own daily. Much like I can’ t stop eating popcorn, he can’ t stop eating cherry tomatoes.
Summer also means, for some of us, time to slow down, take a vacation or read a book. There are tons of films heading to movie theaters during the summer months. You can learn about some of those on Page 17. If it’ s books that pique your interest, check out Page 21. Local author Brian Spangle has released his latest book on Vincennes history called Vincennes, 1926: Three Tragedies. If it’ s golf you’ re interested in, new columnist Brandon Edens Magner may have some new-to-you courses to try on Page 8, and on Page 12, David and Kay Scott fill you in on traveling to our National Parks.
Whatever you do this summer, make it memorable.
Until next time,
Lindsay Owens Editor
