Proceeds from the auction that airs over five nights benefits the community in many ways.
“ Our club is part of Civitan International, which is a global organization that serves communities with a special emphasis on serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities,” said Vincennes Civitan Club President Samantha Yochum.“ We support KCARC’ s Civitan Children’ s Center, and supported its construction over 40 years ago with a major grant. We also initiated the Vincennes University Education Scholarship to support local students pursuing degrees in special education.”
Civitan’ s support for the community doesn’ t end there, though. Chattin said the group sponsors a Vincennes Cub League team each year, gave $ 10,000 to support accessible features for all visitors to the Minooteeni Park near the Riverwalk and has the Civitan Lodge at Camp Arthur.
“ This spring we will also sponsor a bench at the Cub League dedicated to Steve Blinn, the 2026 Citizen of the Year, an award Civitan has sponsored since 1954 that recognizes individuals who make a significant difference in the community through volunteer efforts.”
At the international level, Civitan Clubs support the Civitan International Research Center.
“ It’ s a cutting-edge facility dedicated to the study and treatment of developmental disabilities like autism, Rhett Syndrome and other disorders of the brain,” said Yochum, adding the club, which meets once a month, is always looking for more members.“ Reach out to our Facebook page or visit vincennescivitan. org.”
