My kind of Luxury

This time of year I get very reflective – it must be the season. This past year I made a promise to myself to spend $3 more on each bottle of wine I bought for myself and to have a massage once a month. I think I have enjoyed a luxurious year! It's our luxury issue and when you think of it, It’s of course the big-ticket items that come to mind, cars, houses, jewelry… Those items scream expensive but I guess I’m past all that, as it doesn’t really get my motor running anymore. I love the small things that make a big splash, a decadent coffee, a nice glass or two of wine, a fabulous meal and a great evening with friends and family. Those are what make me tick. I love unexpected surprises and to me that is the ultimate luxury for me. Something unexpected like; a kind gesture or an unexpected token like homemade cookies those are definitely my kind of luxury.

For instance I have neighbors on either side of my house and the B&B where my family and I operate a small wedding B&B business. We only host about 10 or so events a year. We live in a nice neighborhood and want to keep our neighbors happy and never upset them about the business we operate. So last year we invited them to experience a THANK-YOU dinner in appreciation of them putting up with a little noise till 11 pm and some cars parked on the street. They said it wasn’t necessary but we could tell they very much appreciated it. So this year they are coming to our house again where we will have a lovely dinner again, even

though to them ‘it's not necessary’ – it is. An ally in friendship or business is definitely as asset. One thing I learned for sure is never take anything for granted. And in our business of innkeeping it’s important to appreciate those that give you the business and support your business. Our neighbors support is definitely worth a dinner… maybe even dessert! Hahahaha!

Thank you for being a loyal reader and best wishes for the New Year 2017!

See you next issue.
