he Provincetown Hotel at Gabriel’s, located in Provincetown, Massachusetts, is a luxury inn that offers four beautifully restored buildings that
surround gardens and courtyards. It has become one of America’s recognized country inns and is a member of Select Registry, Distinguished Inns of North America. Chosen in 2013 by BedandBreakfast.com as one of the Top 10 Luxurious B&B’s in America, innkeeper Elizabeth G. Brooke has many reasons to be proud.
Elizabeth was a recent graduate schoolteacher seeking employment when she purchased two abandoned and condemned buildings back in 1978 for $5,000 down. She moved in with a crew of hearty women and spent the first winter giving them room and board in exchange for helping her to renovate. The first habitable rooms rented for $25 a night.
She initially planned on eventually selling the buildings in order to move on to her designated profession. Instead she did the opposite, acquiring two more buildings. She discovered that renovating and transforming space was a creative and rewarding endeavor. Slow forward to 2015 and The Provincetown Hotel at Gabriel’s has evolved to become one the finest establishments on Cape Cod with 18 uniquely appointed accommodations.
Although the inn is smack dab in the heart of Provincetown, there are gardens and quiet spaces that include a fish pond with waterfall in the front and a bird sanctuary in the backyard. “We are at the tip of Cape Cod, which is famous for whale watching and the Cape Cod National Seashore.” says Elizabeth, “Our welcoming community attracts people from all over. The town has unique shops, galleries and great theater. Fast food chains don’t exist here. The architecture is authentic old time New England. Our inn is popular for single people, couples, families and those traveling with pets”.
The inn and staff have impeccable standards. From friendly guest services, to food, to choice of bedding and amenities to furnishings. Breakfast is a celebration each morning with everything made to order using the finest local ingredients.
After 36 years in the business Elizabeth Brooke is the longest running women-owned inn in America. No one sees her slowing down anytime soon as 80% of her business is repeat and that is the biggest compliment any innkeeper could have!
