t’s rare that I go anywhere that is not a work related visit to an inn or spa. This spring proved to be different. My husband of
almost 18 years made the first reservation ever to take me away for my birthday. I have discovered that it’s been daunting to be married to a travel editor all these years. He admitted he was reluctant to make any type of romantic or gourmet getaway decision in case it was a property I didn’t like or know. Wow, I had no idea! It was a lovely early spring day and we arrived just as a wedding had happened. The people were floating around smiling and it seemed a happy way to arrive! We got checked in and our room was very comfortable and lovely. He did a great job picking it! I was also surprised to know he had booked side-by-side couples massage. Wow, extra marks for that! me. At the time it seemed like a good idea but the next day proved to be a sorry decision as we could hardly move from stiff muscles!
Dinner that evening was in a small intimate dining room and it was yummy! Hubby is an excellent cook himself and has become a bit of a critic. For me, I am just happy to have someone cook for me. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The Internet wasn’t working and they did their best to try and fix it. Well guess what, there were lots of newspapers and magazines to read just like in the old days!
But truly we were on a romantic getaway to connect so the Internet should not have been important anyways! I just hope I don’t have to wait long for the next invitation for a getaway!
