Carol Hirschi and husband Bob Jeske decided to escape Milwaukee winters and move to Texas, as Carol says she’d rather have heat as you don’t
have to shovel it! Years ago Carol travelled and stayed at B&Bs and was fascinated with old houses and antiques while travelling on the east coast throughout Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. Carol says, “Back in those days you had to fill out an application to stay at a B&B. The one I loved was right on the ocean and I thought this would be very cool and someday I would love to own a B&B.”
They came to small town Texas and the first property they wanted to buy had been an old hospital that was supposedly haunted and while under contract it burnt to the ground, leaving them without anything to purchase. Just by chance they found Moshiem Mansion that came onto the market. The property had been owned by a family that were in the tombstone business, the front steps to the mansion were actually made out of tombstones with typos on them!
Fast track forward as Carol and Bob purchased and renovated it leaving the front steps, it makes a great conversation piece. They have created a sophisticated inn with six beautiful accommodations. Carol is a self-professed antique-a-holic, and the inn is adorned with unique pieces throughout. The six suites were made for any romantic at heart, four rooms have double whirlpool tubs; two have fireplaces continuing that same special ambiance. One of the beds is a half canopy and its unusual construction makes it hard to reach on top, Carol discovered a very old love note tucked into it that said, ‘I proposed to the most beautiful woman in the world and she said yes.” She put the note back as she never wanted to disturb its intention. Many engagements happen at Moshiem Mansion and the innkeepers have participated in hiding the engagement ring for the proposal. Carol has even hidden in a bush videoing the proposal while it was happening. When Carol is not looking after guests she rescues dogs, almost daily she receives calls or drop offs assisting dogs in finding a new home. Happiness resides here in many ways!
