Innovation Issue MADE Magazine | Page 6

publisher’s note MADEXXX Feeding what no longer serves you breeds nothing but boredom and wasted time. Actively pursue the next level of happiness you’ve been seeking. This is where your new norm is born. O ften overused industry buzzwords like disrupt, innovate and ideate seem to be meaningless in an era where business jargon is tossed around in tech talks and conferences. And, although we’re #OverIt, at the core of it all, you can’t deny that these words have been used to push through limits and stretch beyond boundaries. Just as a naughty child by definition is disruptive without much regard to a contained classroom, a serial entrepreneur who is bootstrapping one business to fund the other without fear of her future can disrupt an industry and even a generation. In an effort to revitalize the power and mean- ing that we can draw from words that have become so cliche, I want to challenge you to re-introduce them at their core definition. Words like pivot, accelerate and paradigm shift have proven to be game changers on the pathways to success of many of the greats (if you look past the popularity and misinterpre- tation tech lovers have drilled to the ground for the past five years). As a person who is constantly seeking to become a better version of myself, around this time of the year (at the halfway mark) I dust off my tech glossary to check my pulse, re-energize my mind and guide my inner thoughts through introspective self-reflection. At key points in my journey, I’ve asked myself: Is it time to pivot? Feeding what no longer serves you breeds nothing but boredom and wasted time. Actively pursue the next level of happiness you’ve been seeking. This is where your new norm is born. If you already enjoy what you do, reject mediocrity and challenge yourself to go the extra mile. Does my ecosystem nurture me? Finding your tribe does not have to be a rushed job. Take your time cultivating a group of like- minds in order to strengthen yourself so that you can serve a broader community. How much bandwidth do I have available in my life to do the things I love, and who/what activities are consuming my time? Is anyone taking up too much of your band- width? Say Yes! only to the things that add meaning to your life. Get rid of the rest. Stop piling your plate up with other people’s requests, desires and problems. God will make more room for you to receive more of the great- ness you’re capable of when you freely and unapologetically make moves. Be selfish with your time. I hope MADE’s INNOVATION issue helps to connect the dots around you to lead you to massive disruption. made-magazine.com | 6
