The second session of the series was conducted a month later with Mr. Arijit Sarkar, Director-sales, Google India. Director’s Message Director, NMIMS Hyderabad Dr. B. Karunakar E xcellence is doing something extraordinarily well. We at NMIMS, Hyderabad strive to do the same, striving to bring exV cellence in the field of education. Our vision at NMIMS, Hyderabad is to train the students through educational excellence, innovative research and social outreach programs to become socially sensitive, develop inquisitive minds and imbibe the persistence to change – not only for themselves but also the organization that they serve so that India and the world becomes a better place to live. NMIMS, Hyderabad had an interesting journey over the last ten months, since it started operations in November 2010. We started with the Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM) program for working executives. The program is designed to benefit working executives who wish to acquire cutting edge management skills and is delivered over the weekend. Our second program had started on 20th March, 2011. The third batch commenced on 10th September 2011. In June 2011, we launched our First Fulltime PGDM Batch. The students for the full time batch had got the distinction of being the select few among the 40000 students who wrote the NMAT 2011 entrance exam and qualified for admission through Group Discussion and Personal Interview while opting for the Hyderabad Campus. Our work with the first FT PGDM Batch commenced on 13th June 2011. The students were initiated into the Campus on this day, wherein the Director, Deputy Registrar Commander (Retd.) C Venkateswar, HOD (Academics) Dr. RJR Swamy, Prof. Sasmita addressed the students and briefed them about the course. Later, the students attended workshop on MS Excel, conducted by the Deputy Registrar. The formal inauguration function was attended by guests from corporate world, faculty, visiting faculty, parents and the students on 14th June 2011. Dr. Rajan Saxena, Vice Chancellor, NMIMS University, presided over the function and addressed the students. Earlier, I welcomed the VC, Guest Speakers and also addressed the students. Mr. Soumen Chakraborthy, President, QC, HR & IT, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories and Mr. Sumeet Rajpal, Senior Vice President, Bank of America (An alumnus of NMIMS) delivered key note addresses. Prof. Sasmita was the anchor while the Vote of Thanks was presented by Commander (Retd.) Venkateswar. Workshops on Competency Assessment, Case Study, Indian Values were conducted during the two week orientation program. On the last day of the orientation program, a Seminar on “Consulting Opportunities in Emerging Economies” was organized in collaboration with IMCI (Institute of Management Consultants of India) at the campus. The students Academic Committee organized our first Corporate Conclave at the campus on 20th August 2011 on the topic “Reach a Million in a Second – Social Media as a Marketing Tool”. The Academic Committee activities were led by Nitya, Sriram, Vinay and supported strongly by Priyadarshini, Rohit B and Anuraag. Our event was an approach to bridge the gap between the corporate world and academia with a deep insight on the importance of social media in today’s scenario. The event provided a chance for the organizations and students to discuss relevant issues of business interest and understand how social media can help grow their business. Mr. Sharlin Thayil – Chief Executive Officer (AP), Bharti Airtel; Mr Niladri Ray – EVP, Broadridge Financial Solutions; Mr. Dinesh Choudhary – Manager, Finance and Retail, Google India; and Prof Shantanu Ghosh – Marketing were the guest speakers for the event. The first NMIMS Alumni get-together held at the Tarnaka Campus on 27th August 2011 was attended by more than 25 alumni. The event was orchestrated by Anurag and Anubhav with strong support from Prof Bhaskar Rao. There was a dance by Rishabh and a song by Rohit Trivedi. The families of the alumni were present and the children enjoyed watching the magic show. In all of the extra-curricular activities, it is a matter of pride to share that our students had demonstrated high standards of teamwork, collaboration and distributed leadership. During the first term, there had been a focus on value added workshops through book reviews, learning management and leadership lessons through films like “Gandhi” and “Ek Ruka Hua Faisla”. Book reviews were done on the best of management classics. Orientation on Indian Ethos was imparted through discussions on Bhagvad Gita and from the works of Swami Vivekananda.
