Chakrabarty who lit the lamp on the inauguration day to Amit Saha and Rear Admiral V S Batra, and various other luminaries - each one of them gave us a new dimension in our study of Business and Management and also some lessons for life. Coffee with alumni and Alumni Meet gave us the liberty to get a peek into the personal lives of our colourful alumni and encouraged them to share with us, their experiences of MBA life and a variety of other topics in a very informal setup. Cricket matches provided recreation after long sessions of studies and visiting the Spoorthi (an NGO for orphans) and spending time with the kids there showed us the strength, resilience and optimism of the human spirit. Watching inspiring movies, having open discussions and debates, and playing interactive games often brought the classroom alive in the first trimester. The highlight of Trimester 1 was the workshop by our Director, Dr. B. Karunakar, in which we learnt the techniques of optimizing and re- engineering our lives to make it more prolific and productive. Just a 3 month stay in Hyderabad made me feel that I am a part of the city already. The city’s amazing food and the warmth of its people have ensured me not missing my hometown of Delhi. Life at NMiMS Hyderabad has been wonderful and the quality of learning has been incredible. It has been an interesting time and as we begin classes after completion of first trimester, I look forward to all the hard work, fun and learning experiences awaiting me in the second trimester. Anurag Baveja Class of 2013 PGDM, NMiMS Hyderabad Life at NMiMS Hyderabad It has been more than 3 months now at one of the country’s top ranked B-school’s Hyderabad campus. Though 3 months is a relatively small time, these days have been action packed. Life has taken a drastic turn since I arrived in the city of Hyderabad. Hyderabad (or Hii-derabad as people prefer to call it here) is a place I always wanted to visit as I’d heard quite a few encouraging stories about its culture, food and the fast paced development from my friends who had worked here earlier. My discovery of the city began soon after I arrived, and after a good amount of sightseeing, came to know that it was indeed true that this city is on the cusp of change, and the development and distinctiveness it possessed made me feel I had made the right choice in selecting to study here. The campus of NMiMS at Hyderabad is a wonderful piece of architecture. An attractive glass building on the outside and tastefully designed interiors on the inside, everything seemed to be planned and worked out in meticulous detail. The first time I saw it, it felt it was calling me here to study. Life at NMiMS Hyderabad took off on the 12th of June 2011 when I arrived here in the wee morning hours. A fellow student was kind enough to pick me up, treat me to a sumptuous breakfast at Eat Street (next to Hyderabad’s famous Hussainsagar Lake) and drop me at the hostel, where I was to meet my hostel- and batch-mates. It was a preparation for my first day of the last stage of my formal education. Since then life has revolved around Classroom, Cafeteria, TT room, Library and MDP Center. There were a lot of things to do this trimester, from being present in the college at 8:30 am for the classes to participating in corporate and culture events, to doing assignments, case studies and presentations, these 3 months seemed to have just flown by. The most difficult task was to wake up early to attend the 8:30 am class and then to complete the daily work given after class. It was taking a lot of effort from my side to get used to the student life again! We do not have a very large batch, despite which the diversity, vibrancy and the perspectives which come up during classroom discussions is amazing. Rich discussions occur often in our classes which throw up interesting and (sometimes humorous) points of view. Spending time with my batch mates is like living in a large joint family where, with all the differences, an individual learns to live and enjoy with each other. And as days pass by, we are getting to know each other better, learning to understand more about each other and clearing up the misunderstandings. Our classroom is indeed getting livelier, humorous and interesting. The faculty and the administrative staff at NMiMS Hyderabad are extremely caring and co-operative, and we seldom get to hear a ‘no’ for the things we have asked them for. The personal attention which comes with a small batch is a treat and if I were to single out one thing about the college which makes it different, it would be the approachability and the attention showered by the faculty toward us. Apart from the study sessions, an important aspect of my life at NMiMS in the first trimester has been the experience and knowledge gathered from the events and activities we had organized and participated in. From corporate events, workshops and seminars to sports matches, social activities and cultural functions, each of these events has enriched me in its own way. The guests who visited the campus for talks and seminars were excellent in their respective fields and had a lot of interesting anecdotes and experiences to share.
