We Care Ashray Akruti Team Members- Abhijat Dhawal, Pratik Furia, Abhishek Gupta, Karteek Nandhana, Ankit Sharma and Nirav Soni ‘Ashray Akruti’ is a registered non-profit, non-religious organization working for hearing impaired children from underprivileged backgrounds. Established in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh in 1996, Ashray Akruti runs a school with a residential facility for hearing impaired children. Ashray Akruti started with five children and now caters to the educational needs of 250 children. Since its inception in 1996, more than 150 hearing-impaired children have been integrated into mainstream schools, colleges and Universities. Hearing-impaired children from outside Hyderabad avail residential facilities provided by Ashray Akruti. Through our college’s WE CARE project, we were assigned to work for Ashray Akruti. ere y From this, we started focusing on Walkathon, which was a unique concept initiated by Ashray Akruti where the idea would be to create awareness about Ashray Akruti in the area of Srinagar Colony, where they have their school, with the help of a march. We also tried to revive the Chillies restaurant project started by our seniors as well as approached new places. For database collection, we went to various places in Banjara Hills on the directions of Mr. Babu to seek permissions for setting up of a stall depicting the work done by Ashray Akruti. We also helped the NGO in its ‘Give India Challenge’ for tax saving where in the final amount collected out of the target Rs.1 Lakh was Rs.78,682. We also went along with Devaki Madam to Indu Housing Society at Kukkatpally which has 374 row houses. Our aim there was to spread awareness about events conducted by Ashray Akruti on Women’s Day at Indu Housing Society. We also tried to have a tie up with Big Cinemas wherein the plan was to collect A Rupee from every person who books movie tickets on Big Cinemas website. Although few of the ideas were not implemented due to some problems, we are sure that they would be considered in the near future and executed so that it can go a long way in helping Ashray Akruti. Social responsibility is the need of the hour and NMIMS believes in taking this responsibility very seriously. Making this a part of our curriculum we have tried to firmly establish the feeling of community harmony and integrity among our students. We hope that the reader gets a detailed Idea about the work which NMIMS has wanted to do with the We Care Project working as well as benefitting different NGOs with whom we partnered. We also hope that this report gives an idea to our subsequent batches of the need to be accountable to the society so that they can carry forward the legacy of NMIMS. Our NMIMS. a When we met Mr. Babu of Ashray Akruti on the first day, we were assigned three tasks which we were required to do. First was to accumulate funds, then to create awareness about Ashray and finally to accumulate a database about potential donors. So, from the first day itself, we started thinking about various ideas that could be implemented for the benefit of Ashray Akruti. The first thought that came to our mind was the concept of World Donor’s Day. This was a day which didn’t exist and we thought that it could be celebrated to thank all the donors of Ashray Akruti. We also gave the idea of getting work for the printing machine through which it could get sustained income. The next idea was “We Also Exist” wherein the idea was to basically conduct a SPIC MACAY Concert in the corporate world through the contacts of Ashray Akruti. 24 INM - Vol 5 Narsee Monjee Institute of Management - Hyderabad
