art and do whatever it takes to
get it out there. Mostly, it just
takes time, the more time you
put into it, eventually time will
come around to you.
Morgan Febrey: You created a
sideshow/circus a couple years
back. That’s a perfectly fitting
way to personify your art. What
was it like? Are you going to
get it going again someday?
Brandan Styles: The Surreal
Art Circus was a joint effort
between myself and wife/
partner Ellie. It is something
we dreamed of doing when
we first met. We wanted to
bring our art world to life and
share it in a fun, exciting and
theatrical way. It was a lot of
work trying to make those
happen, maybe a bit too much
work for two people, haha.
Overall it was a thrill to make
the stage design, organize
performers, musicians and
artists, and put together a big
cohesive art event. We have
talks of doing something weird
again, but it won’t be a circus
like before. Maybe some sort
of mythological theatre with
puppets.
Morgan Febrey: Let’s pretend
all the paint in the world
disappeared. Every pencil
vanished. Every last piece of
parchment was used. What
direction do you think your life
would take?
Brandan Styles: Travel and
more travel. Art is great and all,
but it is over saturated and it
might be somewhat of a relief
if all art supplies were gone
for a time. I am a canvas and
traveling is how I create myself,
and through those mystical
experiences that go beyond
words I find myself becoming a
piece of art. Living life is an art
form, do it well and be weird.
