TOTAL ANARTCHY: THE MANY DIRECTIONS OF MARIO ZOOTS’ ART Words: Morgan Febrey Mario Zoots is a dick. One of those guys that’s good at everything he does... And he does everything. He is a well known graffiti writer, his bands, Men in Burka and Modern Witch (both on Bandcamp), were solid, he’s a successful fine artist, a college professor, DJ/video DJ, and I’m probably spacing something. Point being, he gets it. To be good at that many things, there’s an understanding that transcends any medium. An innate sense of form and composition. The style of his recent work is very recognizably unadorned and straightforward. Mario’s work has zero excess. Every shape and sparing use of color serves to the balance. Carrying collage one step further, you’ll see his magazine cover pieces as well. Transforming media by removing elements. Trimming it down to his own composition. Again, no excess and even less than before. 16 InkSpIredMagazIne.coM
