A Seed

By Mikey Witkowski

Down,

Neath the starlit sky and its vast expanse

Down,

Neath the boughs and bends of the oaks

Lies a seed.

Down,

Neath the mantle of the earth

Under the rocks and roots,

Under the bones.

Lies a seed.

Biding its time and holding fast,

It rests in a balmy caress

In wait,

In wait for the unity of hands and hearts

A convocation, encompassing all

A deeper peace and a greater sympathy.

It lies in wait, for a chance to see,

Us stand neath starlit skies, neath the blazing sun,

In fields, in farms, in forests and cities,

In swaying plains and proud houses
