We’re telling them that this is a good night to go out,” says Hancock. “Patrons will know that [Wednesdays are] a safe, healthy night. There’s minimal commitment, no cover charges, good drink deals, so it won’t hit their wallet hard.” “Business and awareness is our goal,” says Lee. “Kaka‘ako is not going away, so we have to be on top of our game; stay fresh.” While it’s way too early to tell where this is going, the initial response is very positive and bodes well for this fledgling collaborative. Where will it be in a year? Lee has a simple yet potent hope where the notion of going out on a Wednesday is again the thing to do. “If I could close my eyes and paint a picture: It’s Wednesday, middle of the day at the office, people are going ‘Where do you want to go today? Let’s definitely go downtown and walkabout and see what happens.’” ■ 01 During the week there are ausually seats open at Bar 35’s counter, unlike during the weekends.
