tion, computer music and musical
history at Columbia. One day, he
met a choreographer on the subway
by the name of Michelle Mola, who
herself was attending the prestigious
Juilliard School performing arts conservatory. The two found themselves
working together, including performances at the school’s base in Lincoln Center.
Glamb was also exposed to other cultures during his schooling on
the mainland, including a 2007 twoweek student exchange where he
found himself in Lima at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.
“Not only did I see Peruvian folk
dance styles, but worked and rehearsed with musicians playing their
native instruments, like the quena,
or traditional Andean flute.
“I consider it a personal challenge
to see how I can help with making
music with all of these other artists
at POW! WOW!, who each have
their own strong specialty. It’s cool to
have us get the opportunity to have a
spotlight on music, like the art.”
Glamb returned home a couple of years ago to pursue what he
hopes will be a medical career. The
29-year-old just finished his pre-med
requisite courses at the University of
Hawai‘i. “I want to live and practice
here,” he said. “whether it’s in primary care or as a specialist.”
Even music is not far away for a
possible specialty he may pursue.
“Being an ear, nose and throat doctor, I would find that appealing.”
Glamb and others will take part in
a series of music lectures and panel discussions 6-8 p.m. Thursday at
Fresh Café and Loft in Space, 831
Queen St. Free and open to all ages.
The POW! WOW! Finale block
party will be held on Auahi Street
from 6-midnight Saturday, Feb. 15.
Besides Glamb’s band and the other aforementioned guests, music will
also be provided by Aly Ishikuni,
Alt/Air, Paula Fuga and The Green. ■

About the Musicians
In the true spirit of collaboration and the process of creating art, POW!
WOW! Hawai‘i has tasked five music artists to create original work during
the festival. Participating in the satellite events, seminars, and finale in 2013
brought a richer creative dynamic to the family. In 2014 the goal will not
only be to create original music but to interface more with the POW WOW
School of Music students to share their process and talents.
