Extravagant Generosity September Mission Focus: Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community “Anyone who wants to come here is welcome. We accept everybody. It don’t matter who you are, we’re just here to love people and love the South Side and do as much as we can for everybody else.” That is Al’s take on the mission of the Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community. Al was homeless and living under a train trestle in the South Side when he was invited to The Table, a free community meal hosted by the church every Tuesday and Thursday night. Volunteers in the church’s homeless ministry who spend their Saturday afternoons delivering lunches to homeless camps throughout the city extended the invitation. Two of the community’s most vital urban ministries focus on food and hospitality. Every Sunday, the church shares together in communion - a spiritual meal followed by a huge free lunch where folks can linger in conversation over tacos or a hot bowl of soup. The table fellowship of the Lord’s Supper naturally spills over into the ministry and service of the church, touching dozens of churches and other organizations that participate in this kingdom-building work. These ministries rely on the partnership of the wider community. “At the Table, we have a budget of about $3000 to serve about 10,000 meals a year,” said Jenn FrayerGriggs, minister to the Table. “The reason we can do that is that people step up … to plan a meal, bring it, serve it, and help us clean up afterward. We just really couldn’t do it without the volunteers.” “Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community is grateful for the continued financial support of Ingomar United Methodist Church,” said Mike Holohan, associate pastor. “We invite you to join in the fun Tuesday and Thursday evenings at The Table or Saturday afternoon at the homeless ministry.” To get connected to The Table, email [email protected].
