Agriculture Technology
The significance of Agriculture Technology was highlighted when Malaysia hosted the virtual APEC High Level Policy Dialogue on Agriculture Biotechnology on October 27 , 2020 . Particular attention was paid to innovative technologies such as digital agriculture , smart farming and biotechnology , in enhancing food security in the region .
The World Bank reported that growing global population and changing diets are driving up demand for food . Production is struggling to keep up as crop yields level off in many parts of the world , ocean health declines , and natural resources — including soils , water and biodiversity — are stretched dangerously thin .
Enhancing Agriculture Technology has been universally named as the means to improve food security as well as environmental sustainability .
The concept of the application of agriculture mechanisation and ICT-based technology for Malaysian farms is well illustrated in the article ‘ Agriculture Mechanisation and Automation for Precision Farming ’. Further application of IoT in relation to smart farming is detailed in the article ‘ From IoT to I-IoT : Transforming Agriculture into Intelligent Agriculture ’.
As this is the last issue of The Ingenieur for 2020 , I wish all readers ‘ Happy New Year ’. May the year ahead rebound with full economic activities and prosperity for the nation .
