● Availability of site cranes such as a crawler crane with the right capacity , temporary tower cranes and scaffolding management , etc . to support and facilitate the Site Integration Phase Activity and Completion .
6 . Optional Approach of FLNG Nearshore : “ Hybrid of Nearshore and Land-Based …” This optional approach of Floating LNG ( FLNG ) Nearshore is a similar concept e . g . the topside process plant is constructed by the modularisation method with a hybrid project site location , Nearshore ( Process Plant with or without Hull-LNG Storage Tanks ) and Land-Based development ( LNG Storage Tanks and other facilities ). For the FLNG Nearshore concept , the Living Quarters ( LQ ) for crew onboard , and the Turret and Mooring are excluded from the project scope of work . However , major challenges include locating the right position of the FLNG Nearshore with draught level at the shallow water location and to study the operational arrangement e . g . Ship-To-Ship ( STS ) Transfer or Side-By-Side Discharge . With the latest FLNG market intelligence , topside module engineering and construction will gain the industry ’ s attention for project execution through to operation , and the modular process plant concept will move into cost-effectiveness and commercial viability in Asia Pacific Region for LNG Development or other Oil and Gas Plants respectively .
7 . Modular Dimensional Control and Check Establishment ( see Figure 2 ) The key success factor in the modularisation concept for either onshore or offshore construction projects will be the modular dimensional control establishment . A prerequisite in establishing dimensional control in line with the shipyard production system by a product-oriented work breakdown structure , welldefined work processes , repeated sub-assembly , assembly , grand-assembly and block erection , and welding sequences . An accuracy control database in dimensional work processes must be accompanied by design and engineering , and working along with fabrication and production engineering . The planning stage is extremely important as it provides benefits in decreasing product variability , and hence improving productivity . Proper planning facilitates execution and evaluation stages in areas of measurement and recording , and analysis and improvement . Modular standardisation and repeatability of processes that apply dimensional control techniques would be beneficial in the longterm , among these would be better feedback for estimating and scheduling , better control of design details , better control of construction shrinkage parts , better equipment footprint layout , better information for decision-making , better worker satisfaction , and of the utmost importance , improvement in modular fabrication productivity .
Additionally , this modular dimensional control and check establishment should consider Site Integration Phase Execution such as site dimensional controls and checks , verification and especially marking out the base foundation , tie-in points and hook-up points between the modular portion and the on-site construction portion .
SUMMARY
Briefly , the modular construction concept in the global LNG industry is a breakthough technology that can be adopted for other process plant projects in the future . A floating modular LNG technology is now a reality but migrating to a Land- Based Construction Method is still in the transition phase . However , it has added advantages under certain conditions such as :
● Simplification of process modular technology .
● “ Begin Construction In Mind ” and understand modular construction sequence – pieces , blocks , decks , modules and modules integration .
● Limited site plot plan and space .
● Remote site construction area .
● Bad weather conditions at site construction area due to extreme heat , cold , frozenground , snow .
● Lack of resources and facilities with high labour cost at site .
