The construction industry is one of the biggest
industrial sectors in Malaysia and it plays
a vital role in contributing to the economic
growth of the country. It is the most productive
sector and is a catalyst of growth for other
industries. Even though globally we are facing
economic turmoil and Malaysia’s Gross Domestic
Product (GDP) only grew 3.6% in the fourth quarter
of 2019, the construction sector achieved a 4.5 %
share of the nation’s GDP (see Figure 1).
Although the construction industry is a
risky, challenging and complex business, the
industry continues striving to achieve a high
level of productivity. This is not measured just
in terms of the rate of output per unit of input
but the contribution of the whole process of
a development project including planning,
construction and facilities management. Waste
generation and the management of waste is
the one of the main elements in measuring
