Being a professional means both having a job/career as well as acting according to business etiquette. In other words, an expert complies to a CoC to be a professional. LAME GE’s are often viewed as expert and professional. However, there is a difference between an expert and a professional. The difference between them is that an expert is extraordinarily capable or knowledgeable while a professional is of, pertaining to be, or in accordance with the (usually high) standards of a profession, represented by adhering to a CoC with a typical example of LAME the field of aircraft maintenance engineering. The licence held by a LAME GE with its aircraft type rating shows one’s expertise. It is clear that expert, professional and CPD are interlinked in the development of a LAME. CAAM AML HOLDERS’ PATHWAY TO BE PROFESSIONAL AT BEM This section proposes a concise outline of the pathways for AML holders registered at BEM to achieve the goals of professionalising the registered person. CAAM Cat B Non-Type Rated (NTR) AML Holder Registered as Inspector of Works Though the IOW registration was only established in the REA 1967 (Amendment 2015) [2] it shows that BEM’s new amendment covers the full spectrum of the engineering members from IOW also known as technician, ET and GE. Based on a BEM study, CAAM NTR AML qualifications may be equated to a Diploma in Engineering Technology. Therefore, an AML holder who is registered as IOW in BEM may refer to the diagram above for the proposed path to consider his/her progress from IOW to ET or GE. With reference to Figure 1 above, the registered IOW may have the option of either pursuing a BEM accredited engineering technology degree programme or an accredited engineering degree programme. Depending on the individual preference, there are people who enjoy work in the field while others prefer to be involved in design as they progress in their careers. For either one, the path is clear.
