Sewerage is an essential utility for mankind in the modern
world. Sanitation improvements have evolved since the
birth of man, yet until the 21 st century, many parts of the
world still lack a proper sewerage system. About two billion
people on Planet Earth still lack good sanitation facilities.
Hence, targets have been set under the United Nations
Sustainable Development Goal No. 6 to accelerate sanitation
improvements globally by the year 2030.
Proper and efficient sewerage systems protect public health,
provide comfort and conducive surroundings to communities
and safeguard rivers from untoward pollution which is
detrimental to potable water.
