Dr Rahim Abu Talib COVER FEATURE Aircraft in hangar for maintenance On June 1, 2018, the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), through its website www.bem.org.my made a very important announcement that aircraft maintenance engineering (AME) professionals who hold a Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia (CAAM) Aircraft Maintenance Licence (AML) are eligible for registration to the Board. This is a major breakthrough for AME professionals in this country. This also signifies that aircraft engineering and maintenance is part of the engineering fraternity in Malaysia. This announcement primarily affects approximately 2,000 active CAAM-AML holders in categories “B1”, “B2” and “C”. The eligible registration categories are technician (Inspector of Works), Engineering Technologists and Graduate Engineers. The AML qualification study began after a meeting between officials from the then Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia (DCAM), now known as CAAM, and the BEM board members in 9
