Currently only ETs with a Master’s Degree by coursework in the relevant engineering discipline may become Graduate Engineers (GE), and later Professional Engineers (PE), after having satisfied the necessary requirements. Figure H1 shows that 70% of total respondents agree with BEM’s policy, where ETs need to have Master’s Degrees in engineering to become Graduate Engineers, and then Professional Engineers (Ir.). In addition to the above, 86% of the ETs would prefer BEM to create a new route specific for ETs to become Professional Engineering Technologists (PET) as shown in Figure H2.  From the survey conducted, various feedback was received from the respondents, some of which may be useful for BEM to consider in enhancing the ET profession in Malaysia. The Working Group on BEM Engineering Technologist Survey has extracted the salient points from the 249 comments received in order to ome out with the selected suggestions and opinions. 7.1 Selected Suggestions From Respondents (i) To provide a short course/examination/ industrial training for ET to convert to Graduate Engineer. (ii) To replace Master’s Degrees and PhDs with other alternative courses for ET to convert to Graduate Engineer. 75
