There should be at least one refuse bin
per 25 workers staying at the quarters to
dispose of their litter (Figure 5).
All-important contacts including nearby
hospitals, or emergency contacts (fire
brigade, police, etc.), should be displayed in
a prominent place (e.g. at the main access
gate, the management office, and the main
notice board at the locations identified)
and in all languages present. The contact
details for the key management person in
charge of handling emergency cases should
also be included on the list.
4. Sanitary Facilities

Sufficient toilet facilities should be provided,
within easy access of accommodation, and
connected to the sewer, where practicable
and compliant with Malaysian Standard MS
2593:2015 as shown in Figure 6.
All toilets should be cleaned and serviced
regularly.
Washing facilities should be provided and
should be adequate for the numbers of
workers.
These areas should be made of impervious
materials that are water resistant, non-
skid/ slip and easily washable.
Privacy should be provided for changing
clothes and toilet facilities.
Separate male and female toilet and
bathing facilities should be provided.
Toilets should be separated from sleeping
and food preparation areas.
5. Canteen, Cooking and Dining Areas

Clean potable water should be provided.
Canteen, cooking, and dining areas should
be made of impervious material, that are
also water resistant, non-skid/ slip and
easily washable.
If food is provided, it should cater for
different cultural needs, e.g. Halal,
vegetarian etc. and must make up a good
balanced diet (Figure 7).
High standards of hygiene should be
adopted.

Persons/ companies preparing the food
should be trained in proper food handling
and preparation techniques and hold
appropriate qualifications where required.
These areas should have adequate
cupboards or similar for the storage of
wet and dry goods, they should also have
adequate tubs/ sinks for cleaning and
washing, as per Figure 8.
6. Lighting and Ventilation

and kept free of damp and mould.
Residential areas should be well lighted
and the light should be able to be switched
on or off at all hours.
