Engineering Team
Engineers Engineers play a very important role in fulfilling human needs through the innovative creation of machines, devices, systems, structures, materials, processes and products through the application of scientific and technological knowledge that touches almost all aspects of human needs. Engineers assume the highest responsibility in an engineering team, and are involved in the creative application of scientific principles in designing or developing structures, machines, apparatus, or manufacturing processes, or works utilising them singly or in combination; or to construct or operate the same with full cognisance of their design; or to forecast their behaviour under specific operating conditions; all as respects an intended function, economics of operation or safety to life and property( EAC Engineering programme Accreditation Manual 2017). The engineering educators at Institutions of Higher Learning( IHL) are tasked to produce quality engineering graduates having the right kind of attributes / outcomes that will enable them to become solvers of problems and‘ creators’ of innovations. These desired attributes of engineering graduates must be clearly spelt out and understood by all academic staff and students.
Engineering Technologist Engineering technologists or applied or practical engineers are often hired to work in various positions such as product design, testing, development, systems engineering, field engineering, technical operations, and quality control etc. They implement engineering works by applying engineering and scientific knowledge combined with technical skills to support engineering activities. Their areas of interest in education are typically application oriented, while being somewhat less theoretical and mathematically oriented than their engineering counterparts. They typically focus their activities on applied design, using current engineering practice. Engineering Technologists play key roles in the engineering team. Their involvement is mainly in product development, manufacturing, product assurance, sales and programme management( Engineering Technology Programme Accreditation Manual 2015).
