The Redesigning initiatives have progressively contributed to the employability rate of Malaysian graduates. The average employability rate is 77.3 %, where MTUNs have recorded a percentage of 87.1 %, public universities at 77.3 % and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia at 78.1 %. This indicates that graduates from technology-based universities remain highly employed at 82.6 % among engineering graduates.
Learning from the corporate leaders and professionals has also been introduced to the University academia. Top CEOs and industry players are appointed as Adjunct Professors and commit up to 30 hours of teaching a year to give public lectures and share their knowledge to the university students and lecturers. Starting with 24 CEOs in 2015, this CEO @ Faculty programme has grown to 60 CEOs in 2016.
Collaboration with industry has also strengthened with the help of other Government bodies. The Malaysian Industrial Development Authority( MIDA) for instance, matches investors and research grants with relevant research universities. With this kind of support, Ir. Dr Siti Hamisah adds that Malaysian Research Universities have reached the top 1 % in the world( out of 30,000 universities worldwide). The prominent institutions include Universiti Malaya, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universiti Sains Malaysia.
Ir. Dr Siti notes that MOHE seeks input from professional bodies and Non-Governmental Organisations to further improve the higher education programmes. BEM was requested to explore whether the 2u2i concept can be
