Ameera Liana Kamal –

SMART and SPUNKY

Top Mara Scholar , Ameera Liana Kamal , 26 , took the limelight when she graduated with First Class Honours for her Bachelor in Electronics and Electrical Engineering degree at the University of Edinburgh , Scotland in 2022 .

In an interview with The Ingenieur from Copenhagen , Denmark , Ameera comes across as intelligent and adventurous . She showed courage to venture into new areas and challenging environments .
At the time of the interview , Ameera was in Copenhagen because she was undergoing training at Orsted . The company develops , constructs and operates wind farms in Europe , Asia and the US . As part of her training , Ameera had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience , working in projects such as the Sunrise Wind ( New York ). She also visited installation yards in Norway and Denmark and an onshore sub-station in Taiwan . Ameera is attached to the power transmission department which handles transporting energy from wind turbines to the Grid . After her eightmonth training , she will continue her work at Orsted ’ s Kuala Lumpur office .
Ameera is the youngest in a family of five from Bangi , Selangor . She comes from a well-todo and supportive family . Her mother , a former university lecturer , made sure she had ample learning resources like extra classes and tuition . Ameera says she shares her interest in science and engineering matters with her father , who is involved in an engineering-related business . “ We would talk about physics stuff like E = MC 2 ,” she illustrates .
By nature , Ameera has an adventurous spirit . She has travelled to 32 countries , either solo or with family members . She is also musically inclined – plays the piano , guitar and ukelele plus enjoys singing .

Good grades were Ameera ’ s hallmark in school . At SMK Putrajaya Presint 8 ( 1 ) she scored 9As in SPM and was awarded the MARA convertible loan under the Young Talent Programme . At A-levels , she excelled with 3As in Physics , Mathematics and Chemistry at Mara College , Seremban .
Ameera had many choices when it came to university education . She recalls considering three choices – medical , accounting and engineering – and had offers from four universities . As the youngest in the family , she weighed her choices looking at the professions of her older brothers and sisters besides seeking their advice .
