The following article on safety and health aims to describe , with simple supporting information and guidance , a framework , style and approach to help companies underpin a transition from a rudimentary traditional safety department mindset to the formation of a transformational safety-centric workplace culture involving all employers and employees — a key pillar of the OSHMP25 . A robust safety culture positions a company to leverage excellent safety performance as a competitive edge , drive brand reputation , attract clients and create shareholder value .
There is no single activity or “ trick ” which can be applied that will immediately bring about an improvement in safety performance . Moreover , many companies do carry out safety improvement activities to realise their safety vision and values . The anticipated improvement as a result of both past and present safety initiatives by a company ’ s senior management can only grow , not in the type of activities that are being applied but in the will to make improvements happen and to put in the effort that is required , i . e . to constantly communicate expectations from the top , make line management accountable and get the responsibilities of all employees clear and accepted , never to compromise standards , to really put safety first !
Introduction
The majority of companies are committed to ensuring that every employee returns home as they arrive — injury-free . To support this expectation and ensure that companies are focused on the right goals , a number of things must occur : every employee must be trained to perform their jobs the right way ; supervisors and company leadership must create the right atmosphere and culture for safe and quality production ; and all employees must clearly understand the expectations and buy into this high level of performance .
