Opening of BEM Sarawak and Sabah Branches
After 50 years of existence , BEM has expanded its registration of registered persons to more than 220,000 of which a significant number are from Sarawak and Sabah . As BEM crosses the half century line , it was felt necessary to serve its registered persons in East Malaysia in a more convenient and efficient way by setting up branch offices in Kuching and Kota Kinabalu .
The opening of the BEM Kuching office was officiated by the Senior Minister of Works , YB Dato ’ Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof on June 30 , 2022 . The BEM 50 th Anniversary logo was also officially launched at the same time .
Echoing the opening of BEM Kuching office , the BEM Kota Kinabalu office is expected to be officially opened in early 2023 .
BEM CONVENTION 2022
BEM conducted the BEM Convention 2022 , in conjunction with BEM ’ s 50 th Anniversary celebration . The event commenced on October 25 , 2022 for four days with the closing on October 28 , 2022 . The first day was a hybrid event where participants attended physically and virtually . The remaining days were fully virtual with only moderators , panellists and crews present at the Telekom Malaysia Convention Center in Kuala Lumpur .
The event was officiated by the BEM President , and broadcasted live to participants . The highlight of the event was a keynote address on “ Engineering the Future ” by Tan Sri Datuk Ir . Dr Ahmad Tajuddin bin Ali .
BEM President also officiated the soft launch of Who ’ s Who in Engineering , Malaysia Book First Edition , which is a directory of Professional Engineers registered with BEM in four main branches of engineering ( i . e . civil , mechanical , electrical and chemical , including subbranches ) and a definitive reference document of professional engineers in specific areas of expertise in Malaysia for all stakeholders .
The event had attracted more than the 4,000 participants over four days of this convention .
There were five Forums and six Webinars as well as a Dialogue and Sharing session . Following were the topics presented .

● Webinar 2 : eBulk Registration by IHL in Malaysia
● Webinar 3 : Introduction of the New Outcome-Based Professional Assessment Examination ( PAE )
● Webinar 4 : Continuing Professional Development ( CPD )
● Webinar 5 : Engineering TVET in Malaysia
● Webinar 6 : Registration as Inspector of Works ( IOW )
● Dialogue 1 : Engineering Leading the Industry for Nation Building
● Sharing Session : Starting My Career in the Engineering Profession
The sessions were selected and crafted specially for the registered persons to be more prepared for the future of engineering in Malaysia and globally . Some of these sessions were broadcasted on the BEM Official Facebook Live including opening and closing ceremonies .
In conjunction with the convention , an essay writing competition was conducted for registered persons . The topic of the essay was “ Ethical principles and commitment to professional ethics and norms of engineering practice and adherence to relevant national and international laws are important in our profession . What do you think of the level of adherence by the engineering community currently ? Looking into the future , what do you think engineering profession needs in order to stay committed to professional ethics ?” The winners are Ir . Ricky Liew Chee Leong , Ir . Dr Siow Chun Lim and Ir . Gs . Ts . Hj . Mohd Rizman bin Sultan Mohd .
