1.0 INTRODUCTION
In recent years , we have seen a lot of major offshore field development especially in oil and gas , and wind farm , etc ., making subsea cables and pipelines a very important communication means through the maritime spectrum .
Looking back at history , we can see that submarine cables have played a huge role in international data transmission since the 1850s . It was all started by John Watkins Brett ’ s English
Channel Submarine Telegraph Company which laid the first line across the English Channel after being granted a concession from the French Government [ 4 ]. British submarine cable systems expanded to the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean during the 1860s to 1870s . Since then , the cable system has spread across most of the world .
During those early years , cables were laid on the seabed with the only protection provided by the outer layer of the cables themselves . It was
