10 to 12 persons comprising inter-mixed levels and departments such as shop floor operators , technicians , engineers and supervisors . The feeling of ownership is intensified because a multi-function team effort is put into practice to improve issues of concern . In addition , the solution provided through a team effort is better standardised and sustained . This in turn adds value to the company .
Management may assign or team members may choose an issue to be resolved which may involve product quality , productivity , cost savings , safety issues , machine troubles and even the working environment . Team members may use the tools learned such as seven basic problem analysis and solving tools to investigate , identify and eliminate root causes . The step to execute SGA can involve a Plan-Do-Check-Action or PDCA cycle as shown in Figure 7 .
Plan – Select the issue given either by the SGA team members or management . Set the goals or expected conditions . The goals must be measurable and precise so that actual improvements can be assessed and sustained . SGA members can proceed to collect data and conduct a study using the seven basic problem analysis tools . Once the root cause has been identified , potential solutions can be found through brainstorming sessions . Do – Execute the solution Check – Collect data , monitor the situation and assess the effectiveness of the solution . There is a possibility to modify the execution plan like adding new found solutions or dropping ineffective solutions .
Action – Once an issue has been resolved , all controlling items or parameters must be standardised and factored into the standard
