● There are constraints of available technology , time , finance , infrastructure , resources , facilities , standards and codes , applicable laws ; and
● There are significant risks and consequences in practice area and in related areas .
Furthermore , the Institution of Engineering and Technology ( IET ) has set a clear pathway for the engineering technologist to be registered as Incorporated Engineer ( I . Eng ), which is the professional level for engineering technology [ 13 ].
Conclusion
Though the registration of the engineering technologist profession is newly accepted by BEM , there are already precedence in other countries such as the United Kingdom Engineering Council and Engineering Council of South Africa where an engineering technologist is eligible to be registered as an Incorporated Engineer or a Professional Engineering Technologist respectively . There are many benefits for an engineering technologist to have a pathway to achieve professional status . It is timely to amend the REA to suit the current development and requirements to have a Professional Engineering Technologist registration . At the same time engineering technologist should be accepted as part of the engineer scheme under the JPA .
