Malaysia Airport Berhad
M
alaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB)
was duly licensed in November 1992 by the
Ministry of Transport Malaysia to carry out
its function as Malaysia’s airport operator. MAHB
manages and operates 39 airports in Malaysia
(five international, 16 domestic and 18 short
take-off and landing ports). As the custodian of the
nation’s international gateway, we are committed
to operating responsibly whilst managing our
business in an environmentally-friendly manner. At
Malaysia Airports, environmental consciousness
is given priority as one of the core strategies in
improving the organisation’s performance in
terms of sustainability. Energy, carbon emissions,
water and waste are the vital environmental
areas that are looked into to improve efficiency
and mitigate possible negative environmental
impacts produced by our operations. With the
aim to achieve this objective, our Environment
Strategy Roadmap was analysed by the
Environmental Management Committee (EMC),
established in February 2017. The EMC involves
various subsidiaries and divisions, integrating
eight key environmental elements into the plan
for environmental sustainability: energy, water,
waste, carbon, wildlife, noise, land and water
contamination, and air quality. The Environment
Strategy Roadmap 2016-2020, which captures the
main thrusts of the strategy and aims to achieve
environmental sustainability by reducing total
direct emissions by 9% in 2020, also completed
its second year in 2017.

consciousness, energy is the biggest contributor
towards carbon emissions in the airports and
is the second highest contributor in financial
operational expenses on utilities. Therefore,
energy policies were established in January
2012 with the main objective to improve energy
consumption efficiency, reduce utility costs,
optimise capital expenditure for energy efficiency
while striving to become a world-class leader in
energy management in the airport industry. The
