The Signalised Intersection Design and Research Aid( SIDRA) software is an assistant for capacity, timing, capacity and performance analysis of isolated intersections. Delay at signalised intersections reflects incompetence in signal timing because of consecutive signalised intersections on the particular site. It also represents a direct cost in terms of fuel consumption during inactivity and idleness on road networks. Furthermore, one of the significant ways to improve the performance of a network is by co-ordinating traffic signals at intersections. This study was done to highlight capacity to improve the level of service( LOS) of three leg intersections on Bukit Chedang, Seremban using SIDRA software version 6.0.
In addition, the study aimed to compare the results between an average delay, queue distance, travel speed, degree of saturation, performance index, fuel consumption and total CO 2 emission before and after the upgraded traffic flow in the study area. The data required for the study was mainly collected through video filming techniques. The calculations and simulations were constructed with the SIDRA software version 6.0 which is used to design and analyse roundabout and intersection conditions. The results obtained showed that with the addition of a new lane and / or a slip lane at all critical positions, the LOS can be improved to a much better grade( from F to C). However, the value of delay, queue, performance index, fuel consumption, total CO 2 emission and speed was also much improved after optimisation by the SIDRA software. The average reduction is delay time before and after optimisation was from 224.3 sec to 25.0 sec( 88.9 %), the speed on the road improved from 7.9 km / hr to 28.6 km / hr( 72.4 %), the performance index was reduced by up to 83.4 % and fuel consumption decreased from 269.6 l / hr to 96.3 l / hr( 64.4 %). SIDRA software will be beneficial for traffic planners in making judicious decisions regarding control type at intersections.
