OEMs lead the design activities by conceptualising
and visualising new vehicle models as well as
finalising their specifications.
In turn, vendors support the OEMs in the
design and development of parts and components
within specifications stipulated by the OEMs.
Once the vehicles enter the market, the
aftermarket community repairs and maintains
the vehicles thus providing safe and convenient
mobility for the general public. The aftermarket
contributes to the important role of scrapping,
recycling and remanufacturing the used parts at
the end of the vehicles useful life.
The automotive ecosystem is supported
by various functioning organisations such
finance, insurance, testing centres, engineering
establishments, R&D organisations etc. These
may operate independently or in some form of
affiliations with the OEMs, the vendor community
and the aftermarket community.
It is within the automotive ecosystem as

enhancement of the national automotive industry
as every stakeholder in the ecosystem has special
needs and talents.
A study was conducted on the current
scenario and future needs for Human Capital
in the Malaysian Automotive Industry. Figure 2
demonstrates the human capital development
areas as the automotive industry moves forward
towards 2020. Manpower requirements are
driven by industry growth and the objectives set
in the NAP 2014.
In consultation with the industry, the results
of the assessment and gap study, identified
the following thrusts in need of immediate
attention:
1. Promote Digital Engineering.
2. Adopt and adapt technical engineeringbased education.
3. Leverage on vocational-based training.
4. Introduce new and review existing
curriculum and skills standard
5. Continual Learning
