Global warming is real . Climate patterns are no longer what they were in the past decades as we experienced climate crises which had never happened during the times of our forefathers . In the race towards constraining the drastic impact of global temperature to not more than a 1.5 o C rise by 2030 , nearly all economies of the world are committed to decarbonisation , sustainability , energy efficiency ( EE ), green technologies and carbon neutrality . Malaysia is doing the same .

In 2019 1 , a total of 158,603 GWh of electricity was consumed by the residential , commercial , industry , transport and agriculture sectors in the proportion of 21 %, 28.8 %, 49.5 %, 0.3 % and 0.4 % respectively
In the context of electricity consumption by facilities and machinery in the built environment of the residential , commercial and industrial sectors , a whopping 157,462 GWh was used . Disregarding a small percentage of electricity being supplied from renewable energy sources , an incredibly high amount of carbon dioxide , totalling 92,115 ktCO 2 , was emitted as a result . Apart from electricity , the final energy demand of fossil fuel , in the form of natural gas , total petroleum products , coal & coke , from the industrial sector alone was 12,173 ktoe 2 . It inevitably emitted another mind-boggling amount of 33,393 ktCO 2 , which was added to the statistics of GHG emission . The combined CO 2 emission from these sectors was 48.4 % of the total CO 2 eq emission 3 of 259,326 ktCO 2 eq , resulting from the total energy demand of our nation .
Under the Paris Agreement of 2015 , Malaysia made an unconditional pledge to cut its carbon intensity by 35 % in 2030 relative to its level in 2005 . In an ambitious move , during COP26 in 2021 , Malaysia unconditionally increased its commitment to cut carbon intensity by 45 %. This confidence stems from the fact that our country has at least six national policies and frameworks on energy , various cross-sectoral plans , roadmaps and sector-specific initiatives . In 2021 , the Government introduced the Malaysia Energy
