( PTS ) to ensure zero HSE-related incidents . To date , the facility has recorded zero HSE incidents since it was commissioned , and all its operators are trained and certified to work at heights and at low temperature environment .
As the facility ’ s main features is cryogenic technology , no chemicals are used , hence eliminating potential risks of chemical exposure to operators and the environment . As PETRONAS is implementing a zero tolerance policy towards HSE , the facility has taken on board these policies and showed consistently , excellent results .
Achievements and Outlook
The construction of the pilot facility began in 2015 . Upon successful manufacturing and installation at site in 2017 , two major projects involving experimental testing were executed using the facility in 2018 and 2019 . As at December 31 , 2019 , the facility had aggregated running time of 2,800 hours . In addition , several other projects are in the near-future plan ( next three-five years ) to utilise the facility for testing . Attributed to the flexibility of the pilot facility , more CO 2
-related technologies such as cryogenic distillation , advanced membranes including polymeric , ceramic , metal organic framework , adsorption and absorption-based technologies , could be tested and qualified in the future . This facility has yielded various prestigious achievements and awards , both regional and local . With the pilot facility , PETRONAS has successfully de-risked the development of cryogenic CO 2 separation technologies prior to it being applied at actual fields . Cryogenic separation technologies are now one step closer to being developed and matured at this test facility without posing risks at the application stage in actual fields .
