Figure 8 : EV and their discarded batteries in MMU industry is unregulated in Malaysia and most countries around the world . There should be a standard and policies to govern the industry . If not , this will result in a lack of consistency in SLB assessment and implementation . As of now , there is only one standard to serve as the guideline for SLB assessment . UL 1974 by Underwriters Laboratories , which was approved in 2018 , is the only available standard to evaluate re-purposing batteries . No doubt re-using or re-purposing discarded EV batteries helps in addressing a serious environmental pollution issue in the world today . Therefore , other associations are encouraged to come up with standards that Governments can regulate and provide incentives to boost the SLB industry .
