to constitute a ‘ managed ’ conflict . This could potentially lead the stakeholders to revisit their values , attitudes , goals and positions , and in turn , sharing such perspectives with others to break down possible preconceptions . Prioritising what needs to be tackled first is very important . For example , the NHD should consider allowing some provisions for emergency situations or rescue works in order to prevent and safeguard heritage buildings from further deterioration .
Finally , we need to improve our engagement with stakeholders , especially the public , so that they can understand , adopt and adapt the significance value of heritage buildings in their daily life . This is concurrent with the Malaysian Government ’ s strategy to be more sustainable in terms of social and environmental outcomes and reduce the country ’ s carbon footprint by 45 % by 2030 .
