The splitting tensile strength of control and coal concretes has a strong correlation with the compressive strength . The correlation is linear and positive as shown in Figure 7 . The splitting tensile strength is within the range of 1.09MPa to 3.42MPa and the compressive strength within the range of 21.88MPa to 37.28MPa . The coefficient of determination ( R 2 ) value of 91 % and 99 % demonstrates a good prediction of the relationship . The relationship between compressive strength and splitting tensile strength for coal concrete was expressed as fsp = 0.56√f ’ c . Similar trends were observed in tensile strength of bottom ash concrete by a previous researcher with the inclusion of cement additives such as metakaolin micro silica [ 25 ]. This could be attributed to the enhancement of both the splitting tensile strength and compressive strength due to the pozzolanic reaction and the reduced pores within the concrete mixes by using coal waste .
