World Maritime Day Every year IMO celebrates World Maritime Day , which is used to focus attention on the importance of shipping safety , maritime security and the marine environment and to emphasise a particular aspect of IMO ’ s work . Each year has a World Maritime theme , which is reflected in IMO ’ s work throughout the year in question , and its own logo . World Maritime Day itself is celebrated in the last week of September each year , although the exact date is up to individual Governments around the world .
Day of the Seafarer Day of the Seafarer is an official UN international observance day which takes place every year on June 25 . It is organised by IMO and aims to increase awareness among the general public of the world ’ s 1.5 million seafarers for the unique , and all too often overlooked , contribution they make to the wellbeing of all of us .
World Maritime University The World Maritime University ( WMU ) in Malmö , Sweden , is a postgraduate maritime university founded in 1983 by IMO . The mission of WMU is to be the world centre of excellence in postgraduate maritime and ocean education , research and professional training , while building global capacity and promoting sustainable development . WMU , as an entity within the UN system , is an institution established by and for the international maritime community and is committed to the implementation of the UN ’ s SDGs relevant to education , gender equality , peace and justice , decent work and economic growth , energy efficiency , sustainable industrialisation and innovation , climate change , the oceans and partnerships .
Promising Growth for Malaysia ’ s Maritime Industry
Malaysia ’ s strategic geographical position on the maritime route between East Asia and the West has given her an edge as a trading nation since the Melaka Sultanate era in the 15 th century . The International Chamber of Shipping articulated that shipping is the life blood of the global economy . The potential for growth in Malaysia ’ s maritime industry will be very promising in view of the country ’ s strategic geographic position on the world ’ s busiest sea route .
