strength values within the range of 21.88MPa to 37.28MPa and flexural strength in the range of 1.87MPa to 5.87MPa . The flexural strength ( fr ) is calculated as the square root of the cube of the compressive strength ( f ’ c ) using the figures obtained in the current study and the hypothetical flexural strength figures based on those suggested by the ACI Committee [ 26 ]. The correlation between flexural and compressive strengths of coal concrete are expressed as fr = 0.961√f ’ c . However , ACI Committee reported flexural and compressive strengths of 363 ( fr = 0.94√f ’ c for 21MPa < f ’ c << 83MPa ), which are somewhat lower than the values obtained in this study .
CONCLUSION
In conclusion , coal waste shows an acceptable characteristic as an aggregate and can be used in concrete production . The density of coal concrete is 19 % lower than the control concrete which consists of granite and sand as aggregates . Upon applying both coarses as well as fine bottom ash the concrete density was below 2000kg / m 3 . Coal concrete has a comparable compressive strength with control concrete at a later age due to the pozzolanic reaction .
