A deeper dive into probiotics & prebiotics
The World Gastroenterology Organisation released updated guidelines on the levels of evidence for probiotics and prebiotics in common gastrointestinal conditions . Clinical conditions for which some evidence was found include , but are not limited to :
• Some diarrheal conditions ( e . g . acute , antibiotic-associated )
• Diverticular disease
• Inflammatory bowel disease
• Irritable bowel syndrome
• Lactose maldigestion
Nutrition & endometriosis : What ’ s the link ?
Endometriosis is estimated to affect 1-5 % of reproductive-aged women . The influence of diet on oestrogenic activity and inflammatory processes suggests nutrition interventions may have a place in prevention and treatment . A mini-review found that consumption of trans fats , palmitic acid and red meat was associated with increased risk of developing endometriosis , while fibre , antioxidants and vitamin D may have beneficial impact on prevention and treatment .

Med diet reduces risk of heart disease in women
A world-first look at the effect of the Mediterranean diet in women published in Heart Journal confirmed it lowers risk of heart disease and death and should be recommended for prevention . The findings showed women who followed a Mediterranean diet had up to 34 % lower risk of heart disease and a 23 % lower risk of death .
