The active biological compounds in foods and their involvement in health
Besides the main function –
providing the body with the
right nutrients and amount of
energy – foods can strength-
en the human body and to
lower the level of getting ill.
These are functional foods
with active biologic compo-
nents. The components of
functional foods: fibres, vita-
mins, minerals, antioxidants,
acid lacto bacteria (bifid bac-
teria), polyunsaturated fat
acids, peptide, proteins, nat-
ural
plants
extracts
(nutritious
plants, fruit,
roots
ex-
tracts), oligo
sugars (fruit
oligo sugars,
galactose
oligo sugars),
alcohols from
sugar
(polyols).
To simplify things even more
we have the diagram of the
healthy human’s plate which
helps us choose healthy
types of food even when we
are in a hurry.
Don’t forget the nutrients!!!
All nutrients are necessary,
but in different amounts. Pro-
teins are necessary for the
body grown. Carbohydrates
are necessary to provide en-
ergy. Lipids are necessary
for a good development of
the brain. Fibres are neces-
sary for a good digestion.
Vitamins are very important
because they stimulate and
sustain the entire metabolic
activity.
Very
important
throughout childhood is Vita-
min d, which helps the ab-
sorption of calcium. Other
minerals are also very im-
portant in order to ensure the
health and a good develop-
ment of the body.

with a balanced diet and you
will feel good throughout the
day, and your body will grow
in a harmonious way. Even
sports men, especially the
ones who are performant,
pay very close attention to
what they eat and how much
they eat, being careful that
their diet consists of a bit of
every type of food, in order
to have a balanced diet.
