Introduction
The main objective of publishing the “Uzbekistan Economy” Information and Analytical Review is
to familiarize the wide readership with trends and specifics of intensification of economic reforms in
Uzbekistan.
A fundamental peculiarity of the publication offered lies in the systemic presentation of informa-
tion, which gets regular updates and touches upon the most critical issues of social and economic
development of Uzbekistan.
Publication of the Information and Analytical Review on a regular basis makes the macroeco-
nomic environment transparent for the government and regional organizations, business community,
international institutions, and researchers. They receive information about changes in tax, monetary,
foreign exchange policies; trends and specifics of the Uzbek model of social and economic develop-
ment which helps to have a better feel of the situation.
Each issue of the Information and Analytical Review is prepared by a large group of highly knowl-
edgeable experts. The following official statistics data serves as reference information basis: data
from State Statistics Committee, banking and state budget statistics as well as labor statistics. In
addition, results of other research projects, surveys, statistical collections issued by international
organizations have been used.
This issue highlights the dynamics, quality changes and trends that have occurred in the economy
of the country in 2007.
The first section deals with the main macroeconomic indicators: economic growth, investments in
the economy, prices and inflation as well as employment and labor market situation.
The second section analyzes revenue and expenditure parts of the state budget, monetary policy
of the Central Bank, banking sector, stock market and foreign exchange policy.
The third section reviews trends in foreign economic activity, exports and imports composition.
Analysis of activities of enterprises with foreign investments is also covered in this section.
The fourth section considers private sector development and market transformations. This sec-
tion looks into the results of the implementation of the Privatization Program, real estate market
trends and small entrepreneurship development.
The fifth section addresses trends and development problems of industry, agricultural sector,
consumer goods market and services sector.
The sixth section is devoted to trends in regional social and economic development.
The seventh section furnishes the in-depth analysis of income and expenditure of the population,
the implementation of the program of social protection and support to vulnerable population strata.

nomic events in 2007; the topmost priorities of the program of social and the economic development
