FTA names recipients of 2022 Technical Innovation Award
FTA has announced during FORUM 2022 two recipients of a 2022 FTA Technical Innovation Award , which recognizes trailblazers making an impact on the package printing and converting industry . The companies receiving a 2022 Technical Innovation Award , and their technologies , are :
DuPont™ Cyrel ® Solutions , for its Cyrel Lightning Plates , flexographic plates designed to increase efficiency on high-end and high-cost LED exposure units while matching or exceeding the quality of longer exposure times ( Prepress Graphics Category )
SOMA , for its SOMA Changeover Wizard , a flexographic press user interface that guides the press operator throughout a job to optimize the process and minimize operator error ( Heavy Metal Category )
“ Forward-thinking companies like the recipients of this year ’ s Technical Innovation Award pave the future for flexography ,” said FTA Director of Education Joe Tuccitto . “ These innovations will help shape where the industry is headed .”
For more than 25 years , the FTA Technical Innovation Award has recognized the most innovative and impactful technologies for the ever-evolving package printing and converting industry . Recipients of the Technical Innovation Award are deemed by a panel of industry experts to have the potential power to change flexography ’ s future for the better . They include innovative technologies that utilize the flexographic process or have been designed specifically to enhance flexographic printing .
DuPont Lightning
DuPont Cyrel Solutions ’ Cyrel Lightning plates technology has received the 2022 FTA Technical Innovation Award . Tucker Norton , global business leader at Cyrel Solutions , said : ‘ We are deeply honored to receive this outstanding achievement , which highlights the power of our science to raise the bar on plate performance . The judging process was extremely competitive with a variety of distinctive products being submitted for evaluation , and we ’ re grateful for this special recognition by our peers .’
The new Cyrel Lightning plate family is optimized for UV-LED exposure units . The benefits of the plates include a further optimized match between access time and plate performance . Previously , exposure settings on LED units often had to be adjusted for either higher quality or shorter access time , according to DuPont .
The Cyrel Lightning plates were formulated from the ground up with UV-LED exposure characteristics in mind . The Cyrel LSH represents the first photopolymer plate of the Lightning family . It is solvent processable and currently available in 045 and 067 gauges .
