PARISA LOUVEL Unsigned Hertfordshire born singer Parisa Wilkinson, otherwise known as ‘Parisa Louvel’ took time out of her busy schedule of song writing for her new Album, to talk to us about the challenges she faces as an Artist, as well as dishing out her advice on what it takes to get yourself noticed in an Industry bursting with new acts. Parisa, thank you so much for talking to us today. Tell us, as a singer how do you try and differentiate yourself from other artists? Parisa Louvel. I would have to say staying true to your own personality and not trying to copy any other artists intentionally is the first rule I stick to. This involves checking to see what other people are doing and making sure I’m not doing something too similar. Secondly, going for something fresh sounding, that’s perhaps worked in the past that isn’t currently around, but you know it will be popular as its already worked before”. What advice would you give to other aspiring Artists who are thinking of making a career out of music? “Definitely to plan ahead and make sure that you are aware of what you’re getting yourself into. It’s competitive and harsh, so you need to be able to take rejection and handle any success. Also, hone in every other skill you have as well in order to better your career. For instance, I’ve started learning the guitar and piano to help myself progress as a writer and artist”. What do you find is most difficult for Artists such as yourself, when trying to make a name for yourself in a very competitive industry? What gets your creative juices flowing? “Definitely money and exposure. You have to compete with people who are having money invested in them, which is the same as being an unknown brand, superstore, or shop trying to compete with Tesco. Another thing I find quite difficult is working really hard on creating a unique sound and image, and then someone very similar comes out of the woodwork and gets signed, which then limits your chances of getting signed yourself ”. “I’m inspired a lot by other music, as well as film and art. Imagery can also set it off, as I will create a story in my mind and work from that. However, emotional changes are the main instigators in spurring me on to write music. I can never force myself to write, it has to happen naturally happen, that’s when I get my best material”. What would you say are the 5 most helpful rules to stick to as an Artist? “Networking, determination, and positivity, as self doubt gets you nowhere. Working hard on your ability to write, sing, or whatever your craft is. Staying open minded, and not being stubborn”. Finally, how do you deal with setbacks? “You will always get set backs no matter how big or small they are, but you just have to keep going and build a strong back bone. I try to look to what is next instead of dwelling on the negatives. If its down to something you can improve on, then work on improving it”.
