The nike
"Swoosh"
Originating from the combination of efforts from Coach Bill Bowerman of the University of Oregon and one of his former runners, Phil Knight, Nike was founded in1961. In its first year, the company sold $8,000 in footwear. Now, the famous Nike “swoosh”, which is the little logo it has had since then, is recognized world-wide, from its town of origin Beaverton in the United States, to here, Chihuahua, México, and even to the poorest neighborhoods in Skopje, Macedonia (its bridge is shown in the middle picture of the next page) It went from producing just shoes to incorporating into its merchandise items such as clothing (which include even the “Nike Tech Fleece”, skirts, yoga pants, tops, socks, etc.), gear like watches or bags, many kinds of sports footwear, and accessories, such as cellphone or music player cases. The queer thing about this business is that not one hand in its city of origin has to do with the actual processing of its products; this is all done worldwide. The industry grew, and so their revenues, and with this, the company was able to buy factories in locations with cheap labor wage and close to the materials needed for the making of the actual products. All this is the product of industrialization, globalization, and service working together.
